Monadnock Paper Mills Inc, the oldest continuously operating paper mill in the United States, has published its 2024 corporate social responsibility (CSR) report. The report details the company’s progress toward its environmental, social, and governance goals, highlighting the measurable outcomes achieved through its structured sustainability framework.
‘Our responsibility is to lead by example and ensure our actions align with our commitments,’ said Richard G Verney, chairman and CEO, Monadnock Paper Mills. ‘This past year’s results affirm the progress we have made through disciplined execution and unwavering integrity, from resource management to employee wellbeing.’

Key highlights from the 2024 CSR Report include:
EcoVadis Platinum rating: Monadnock earned a Platinum rating from EcoVadis, placing the company among the top 1% of over 90,000 companies evaluated globally. This rating reflects the company’s ongoing investments in environmental management, labour practices, and ethical governance.
Water efficiency: through targeted upgrades and process controls, Monadnock reduced its water use by 12 million gallons.
Waste diversion: Monadnock diverted 98% of total waste from landfills. Improvements in recycling systems and production efficiency led to reduced material loss and higher recovery rates.
Recycled material use: used 2867 tonnes of post consumer recycled pulp across our product lines, a 25% increase from last year.
New fibre based solutions: in 2024, the company introduced two sustainable product innovations – Renovo, a fibre based alternative to plastic gift cards made from 100% post consumer waste (PCW); and Stello, a perfect white substrate for high end printed materials like event invitations and fine stationery.
All Monadnock fine printing papers and packaging products are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified and produced under an ISO 14001 environmental management system, manufactured carbon neutral (verified emissions reductions), and made using 100% renewable, Green-e certified wind energy (RECs). Technical and specialty grades can be produced with FSC certification upon request. These third party standards ensure that materials and processes meet strict criteria for environmental performance.
