Linxon has confirmed its long term commitment to the transformation of Scotland’s transmission network as it officially opens its first office in Scotland.

The new office, located on Bothwell Street, in Glasgow, will serve as a key base for the company’s work with Scotland’s two transmission operators, SSEN Transmission and SP Energy Networks.

Together, the two transmission operators are investing around £34 billion over the next five years, to deliver the critical grid infrastructure needed to support the delivery of Scotland and the UK’s energy security and clean power ambitions.

Linxon has a proven track record of delivering detailed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) activities for electrical substations and associated infrastructure. The new Glasgow office will support 25 roles initially, with further recruitment anticipated as work to build out Scotland’s transmission network ramps up and its Scottish portfolio continues to grow.

All roles are new positions and include a full range of engineering and project operations professionals, supporting the design and delivery of complex transmission projects that will expand and reinforce the electricity network.

Linxon has confirmed that local recruitment will be a priority, with the majority of roles filled in Scotland. The company will draw on wider UK and international expertise only where specialist skills are limited, alongside a clear commitment to developing local capability and supporting the Scottish supply chain.

The opening of the Glasgow office reflects the scale of investment now underway in electricity transmission infrastructure, as network owners work to deliver the upgrades required to connect new renewable generation and maintain a secure, reliable electricity system.

Speaking at the formal opening event, Yousef Chamaneh, Linxon UK country manager, said: ‘The opening of our first office in Scotland  marks a long term commitment to Scotland’s energy future. In partnership with SSEN Transmission and SP Energy Networks, we are here to help deliver the resilient infrastructure the country needs while creating lasting social and economic value for communities across Scotland.’

Guy Jefferson, transmission managing director at SP Energy Networks, said: ‘We are at the helm of the biggest grid rewiring since electrification and with that comes jobs, supply chain contracts and an economic boost for Scotland.

‘Linxon is one of many businesses playing a key role in our £5.4 billion strategic agreement partnership and this office opening and resulting jobs are testament to the benefits our investment is bringing.

‘With much more to come, the investment in our electricity grid will bring increased resilience and security, enable more homes, business and industry to connect and deliver lasting benefits in an all electric future.’

Celebrating the office opening, Sandy Mactaggart, director of offshore delivery at SSEN Transmission, said: ‘The scale and pace of grid investment now underway across Scotland is unprecedented, and strong delivery partners like Linxon are critical to making it happen. Its decision to establish a permanent base in Glasgow is a clear vote of confidence in Scotland’s role at the heart of the UK’s clean energy future, and it will help ensure we have the engineering capability, local presence and skills needed to deliver vital transmission infrastructure safely, efficiently and at speed.’

The new Glasgow office is expected to act as a hub for collaboration with clients, partners and the wider supply chain, supporting the delivery of major transmission projects that will help unlock clean power, strengthen energy security and deliver economic benefits across Scotland.
